And, now you are owned by a Jack Russell Terrier! The goal of this book is to provide you with powerful secrets that I have learned after being around JRT dogs and puppies with our family breeding business for over 40-years.
Dogs have always been a part of my life, I remember as young as five-years old, dressing up my Dalmatian, “Hopie,” in a dress, trying to train her to jump through a Hola Hoop, and thinking that if we could accomplish this task we could join the circus.
As I grew older, we added more Dalmatians to our family, and later Queensland Blue Healers. All the time, my parents bred our females and casually sold the puppies. And me, … falling in love with EVERY puppy and begging my parents to keep one, only to watch my favorite puppy be sold to another loving family, which I soon learned was the best outcome.
At the age of fifteen, my mom brought home a new dog, “Lizzie.” She was a lot smaller than the working cattle dogs we had on our ranch, and my step-dad and I rolled our eyes when we saw this little toy “city slicker dog.” We had no idea what to do with it.
How was this little Jack Russell Terrier (JRT) going to keep up on a cattle drive, or keep from getting stepped on as we worked out in the barn with the horses?
As time went by, we discovered that while Lizzie did not have the best confirmation or pedigree, she was SMART and BRAVE, and she won our hearts with her Big Dog personality and her tenacity. Soon she earned a spot as a ranch dog, and a spot in our hearts.
